Biden administration supported Dr. Muhammad Yunus to create a chaotic situation in Bangladesh leading to Sheikh Hasina’s downfall last year.  As per media reports, Dr. Yunus was funded by billionaire George Soros to overthrow Hasina and President Donald Trump disclosed that the US administration paid $29 million to a few NGOs in Bangladesh to reshape democracy. Anyway, they were successful to overthrow a democratically elected Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in Dr. Yunus own words,  ‘through a ‘meticulous design’.

Sheikh Hasina: a Dynamic Leader

Hasina ruled the country for a total of 21 years and turned this poverty-stricken, cyclone-infested, poor country Bangladesh once known as “a bottomless basket with no hope of survival’ into a flourishing economy, a land of opportunity.  She upgraded its status from an LDC to a ‘developing country’, the 33rd largest economy of the world. She aimed at making it a hunger-free country by 2030 and a prosperous digital Bangladesh by 2041. Within last few years, she reduced poverty more than half from 42% in 2006 to 17% in 2023, increased school enrollment from 55% to almost 100%, increased the supply of electricity from 25% to 100%, enhanced longevity from 55 to almost 74 years, and maintained an average annual GDP growth rate of over 6.6% for last 15 years.  No wonder, the UN and the World Street Journal termed it “a model of economic development” and the Boston Consulting Group predicted it to be the 9th largest market place in the world.

However, since Dr. Yunus took over, the shining economy of Bangladesh is now crippling, its economy is shrinking, its GDP growth rate hardly could reach 3.3%, lowest in last 30 years, and both poverty and unemployment sharply increased. As per World Bank, an additional 3 million people will be pushed below the poverty level by year-end. His so-called “social business“ is not working. Instead hundreds of factories have shutdown due to uncertainty, shortages of industrial inputs and foreign currency, and thousands have been laid off, unemployment roster recorded an additional 26.6 million job seekers, and all development projects are on hold.  Stock market simply collapsed and bank borrowings reached record high. Due to poor governance. the nation’s business leaders predict closure of at least 50% of nation’s factories and many are trying to shift their investment abroad.

Radicalism and mob violence: engulfed Bangladesh

Instead of improving the situation, Dr. Yunus let loose his radical ‘jihadi mobs’ to silence his critics.  On 16 July, he committed genocide in Gopalgonj, a stronghold of the past government and birthplace of Sheikh Hasina and her father, the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who liberated the country.

He authorized Maj. Gen. Emdadul Mamun, son of his trusted Chief Election Commissioner to wipeout the Awami League (AL) supporters in Gopalgonj, a stronghold of AL party.

Hasina was upright, Yunus is dubious ?

Sheikh Hasina without naming any specific country publicly claimed that a few agents of Western powers wanted to set up a military base in its St. Martin island in order to monitor the growing influence of China in the region plus its supply chains in the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean.

In fact, China invested billions in Myanmar’s Rakhaine state and built gas pipelines and also port facility. The other big investors are India, Japan plus British offshore companies.

Apparently Sheikh Hasina never agreed to give up St. Martin island and she made it crystal clear, nor she agreed to create a corridor for smooth supply of weapons to the revolutionary forces of Myanmar, the Arakan Army and the ARSA who are trying to overthrow the military junta of Myanmar and who are responsible for ethnic clinging and genocide in Myanmar, and who pushed 1.2 million Rohingyas to Bangladesh as she was apprehensive that it might lead to a prolong proxy war in the Asia-Pacific region. Rather she wished to resolve the Rohingya issue peacefully through dialogue and discussion.

In fact, Myanmar government agreed to take back Rohingyas after verification and the Bangladesh government submitted 832,000 biometric data of Rohingyas to the military junta of Myanmar.  Myanmar again and again reiterated that they would take them back once the security situation improves in the Rakhaine state and it also set up dates for repartition couple of times but none have gone back yet. In fact, since Dr. Yunus usurped powers, an additional 1.3 million entered  Bangladesh totaling 13.5 million now. Holding hands of the UN Secretary General Antonio Gutress, Professor Yunus assured the Rohingyas that they would enjoy their next Eid festival in Myanmar.

In the past, in 1970s, 1980s and 1990s Myanmar pushed thousands of its Rohingya ethnic minority to Bangladesh but through dialogue and discussion, they took them back.

In 2017 due to atrocities and ethnic cleansing in Myanmar initially an additional 870,000 crossed into Bangladesh borders totaling 1.2m. Since then the USA has been providing maximum humanitarian assistance to them. The funding from other nations have sharply declined yet the US assistance is basically remained steady.

Sheikh Hasina’s government appealed all countries to help resolve this Rohingya crisis and she proposed at the UN to create a Safe Haven for Rohingyas inside Rakhaine state. Rohingyas wished to go back but a few international NGOs including UN agencies recommended the Bangladesh government to allow Rohingya children (each year nearly 30,000 are new born) to attend regular schools, and grant them the work permits so that they can earn a living  just like other Bangladeshis.

Since Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world and it doesn’t have enough job opportunities, it approached other countries for their rehabilitation and relocation. USA and Canada agreed to relocate few hundred thiousands each year but till to-date USA relocated only 69 and Canada 5 Rohingyas under their “family reunification’ programs. Saudi Arabia claims that they have nearly 55, 000 Rohingyas in their country.

Rohingya once powerful Burmese citizens now stateless people

Once Rohingyas were politically powerful citizens of Burma (old name of Myanmar) and many of them were Cabinet ministers and also Members of Burmese Parliament. Rohingyas came to Burma from Arab states in 12th and 13th centuries as Arab merchants and traders. They built flourishing economy and the Arakan kingdom became a very attractive kingdom. During WWII, the Rohingyas, being Muslims supported the Allied Forces, the Americans and the British soldiers while the Burmese government supported Japan being Buddhists. In 1962, when military government took over Burma, they started marginalizing the Rohingya citizens and in 1982, when Burma was renamed as Myanmar, Rohingyas were defrancized.  Since then they are “stateless people in their own country“.

Is Western educated Yunus playing Double Standards?

In contrast to Sheikh Hasina, as per reports Dr. Yunus already allowed its St. Martin island to the US command and he also agreed to provide a Humanitarian Corridor to the Arakan and ARSA armies. However, his administration squarely put blames on the US and the UN for taking such unpopular decisions. In the process, people are getting upset with the US and the UN and are becoming hostile to them.

While he is agreeing to US demands, on the contrary, he is developing a very strong relationship with China and Pakistan. He made his first maiden visit to China and agreed to allow China to build critical defense infrastructure in Bangladesh. His government is buying military hardware and technology from China, Pakistan and Turkey.  He even granted China to build its Payra Port, an airport near the India’s chicken-neck and  a dam in Bangladesh. As against Sheikh Hasina’s a “balanced non-aligned foreign policy — friendship to all, malice to none” — Dr. Yunus tilted toward China and Pakistan away from Western block.

Yunus Dislikes President Trump?

Dr. Yunus personally dislikes President Trump and along with billionaire George Soros, he invested heavily to defeat Trump.  His best US friends are President Bill and Hillary Clinton. They are also his promoters. Since Trump got the victory, he is managing the Trump administration with false hopes.

Secondly, he is strengthening the radical Islamists and Jihadis to fight infidels, the Americans and the Indians. He also launched ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ to wipe out devils, basically the supporters of the past government. He developed a hostile relationship with India, country’s biggest neighbor. The words ‘devils’ and ‘infidels’ have been borrowed from the radical jihadis of Dr. Yunus.

Bangladesh: Now A Cocoon of radical Jihadis

In fact, over the last 11 months, terrorists and radicals have taken over most of critical jobs in the country and they are hostile to the US interests. Couple of his advisors including his Home Secretary is a member of the Hijbut Tahir, a terrorist organization. Yunus created a new political party, National Citizens Party (NCL), popularly known as the King’s party mostly composed of members of the “Islami Chatra Sibir’ a youth group of the Jamaatee Islam party which was once termed by the US government as a terrorist organization.  Moreover. Dr. Yunus released all the convicted terrorists from jails. The popular slogans of the jihadis are “death to America”, “we are Talibans, we will make Bangladesh an Afghanistan “.

Crusade Against Women

Sheikh Hasina’s main strength was ‘women workforce’ and she empowered them with jobs, credits and social protection programs. As a result, women workforce increased from 6% to 42%.  In contrast, those who lost their jobs under the Yunus government, 85% are women workers, and young girls and women are now being harassed if found without hijab. Rape and murder of women reached all time high in Bangladesh now. In order to humiliate. they put women figures on display to throw sandals and stones on them.

Yunus’s US strategy: Manage Trump?

Although Yunus tries to keep Donald Trump in good humor but in reality, he is promoting anti-US elements and developing hatred towards America and its values. Here are few examples.

(1) USA believes in freedom of media and democracy.  Dr. Yunus, however, silenced the media through his Jihadi mobs, and has been delaying a free, fair and inclusive election under various false pretexts.

(2) The strength of the USA lies in its strong and fair justice system and it believes in rule of law. Dr Yunus has turned his judiciary as a joke and a vehicle of extortion and tyranny.

(3) US believes in rights of private property, he ignores property rights and his jihadis are encouraged to takeover anyone’s private property or business.

(4) US discourages corruption, his administration has surpassed all past records of corruption.

(5) US gives priority to Human Rights and Civil Liberties. His administration detained over 420,000 political prisoners in last 11 months and committed grievous human rights violations. Recently he authorized his Chief Election Commissioner’s son, Maj. Gen. Emdadul Mamun, G.O.C, to wipeout AL supporters from its stronghold Gopalgonj, and in the process, they committed genocide in Gopalgonj.

(6) US discourages radicalism and terrorism. Sadly, his administration promotes radicalism and terrorists.

(7) US discourages to buy weapons from China, he is buying his weapons from China.

From the activities of his government, it appears that he is trying to fool the US while developing stronger relationships with China, America’s rival. His trade volume with China has shotup and he is encouraging Bangladeshis to go to China for their shopping, for tourism plus medical treatments away from India, Thailand and Singapore.

Sheikh Hasina government signed agreements to buy Satellite from France, naval vessels from UK, energy from Qatar, and Airbus from Europe. But Yunus is trying to cancel those agreements to buy from China and recently, Ukraine protested as he is importing ‘stolen food grain of Ukraine’ from the Russian Federation. Therefore, big question is, can Trump administration trust Dr. Yunus?
